The festival time has begun and next in line is Navratri…
In India, the beauty is because of diverse culture you have more opportunities of enjoying the same festival in many ways. Every festival has its significance and adds colors to our day to day life. What we need to understand & imbibe is the true meaning behind it.
Going into little details. Navratri comes more than twice a year. We all celebrate twice once as Chaitra Navratri second as Shardiya Navratri. This period is dedicated to the worship of Maa Durga. We worship 9 different forms on Nav Durga during this period and on the 10th day Dussehra / Vijayadashami or Dasera is celebrated.
Even in these 9 days Maa Durga is worshiped in 3 sets. First 3 days we evoke the power of Maa Durga to get away with our evils and defects. The next 3 days are dedicated to Maa Durga in the spiritual form of Maa Lakshmi as she bestows her devotees with her power of never ending wealth. The last 3 days we dedicate to the Goddess of wisdom – Maa Saraswati for overall enlightenment and success.
On the first day we worship Maa Shailputri.
Maa Shailputri is the absolute form of nature. She is the consort of Lord Shiva and daughter of King Himalaya.
Holding the trident, lotus flower with half moon on her forehead, her form brings in so much peace. The mother of Lord Ganesha and Lord Kartikeya, she rides Nandi (bull). The daughter of “Parvat Raj Himalaya”, her name signifies the same – daughter (putri) of mountain (Shail). She is the re-birth of Maa Sati. Worshipping Maa is not an outward journey its also to introspect inside us. Her abode is in the Muladhara Chakra which is the basis or starting point of spiritual journey. Its lies in lowest point of our spinal cord – Coccyx, so also bears the name of “Root Chakra.” Considering the positioning this chakra lies in the dormant form in our body. Our eyes are focused to see the outwardly flowers and fruits but not on the roots which give the nourishment to the plant.
For me this form is a learning of awakening from the dark. We love to see the result but lets give credit to our roots. Lets dive deep inside us to know about our ‘Mul’, our ‘core.’ We walk towards the path of knowledge. Lets be strong as the daughter of Mountains and remain firm, achieve our goals. The color assigned to this chakra is red.
Get ready to don your best grey clothes for 1st October and orange for 2nd October.
Happy Navratri ! May the Goddess bestow her blessings in the form of love, happiness, health and prosperity.
